Alhambra : Funds Sought for Center
Los Angeles County officials are studying the possibility of using money from the sale of an abandoned county building to keep the Alhambra Health Center open.
The center was threatened with closure earlier this year because studies showed the building would be unsafe during a major earthquake, and reinforcing the building would cost the county $1.2 million.
But a second study determined that seismic safety work would be less expensive--about $425,000.
At county Supervisor Michael Antonovich’s request, officials are considering financing the renovation with the sale of the old Department of Public Social Services building, worth about $2.2 million, said Kathryn Barger, a health deputy for Antonovich.
