Temple City : Mini-Mall Reconsidered

Share

After recently granting all permits necessary to build a mini-mall at 5919 Oak Ave., the city has decided it may want a parking lot on the site instead.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Temple City Council blamed itself for overlooking that the Planning Commission had granted approval of the mini-mall project, then discussed ways to stop construction on the just-cleared lot. City Atty. Charles Martin said that if the city revoked the permits, the case would probably go to court, where Temple City’s chances would be “slim to none.”

Developers for the mini-mall project said they have not decided what course of action to take in reaction to the council’s action.

The council set a public hearing on the parking lot proposal for Sept. 4. If the city were to condemn the land, it would have to pay fair market value for the property, Martin said.
