BELFAST, Northern Ireland —
Four masked men with automatic weapons shot and killed a man who was celebrating his 5-year-old son’s birthday at his Belfast home, police said Wednesday.
A Royal Ulster Constabulary spokesman said the victim, John Judge, 34, a Roman Catholic, died when the assailants stepped out of a taxi and opened fire late Tuesday.
The Ulster Freedom Fighters, an outlawed Protestant extremist group, later claimed responsibility.
Judge was the fifth victim of sectarian violence to die in Northern Ireland in the last eight days.
