A retired Marine confined to a wheelchair was robbed of about $500 Thursday afternoon in downtown San Diego.

The victim, a transient, was holding the money in his hand about 1:20 p.m. when the bandit approached from behind, grabbed the cash and disappeared into the crowd at 4th Avenue and Broadway. It was not known why the victim had the money out.

Police are seeking a heavyset black male, about 5-foot-7. He was wearing light-blue bicycle pants, a white T-shirt and tennis shoes.
