U.S. Top Seeded at Synchronized Swim

Despite finishing third in the compulsory team figures competition Saturday, the United States will be the top-seeded team in today’s finals of the American Cup IV synchronized swimming competition at Heritage Park in Irvine.

The U.S. team earned the No. 1 seeding because it had the top combined score (166.8800) from the preliminaries.

China (166.6550) is second, followed by Canada (166.5588), Egypt (150.6850), Switzerland (148.6788), France (137.4150), West Germany (135.7360) and Mexico (131.6550).

In the preliminary team routines, the United States finished first with a score of 96.30. Canada (92.40) was second and China (91.48) third.

In an upset, China won the team compulsory figures with a score of 75.1750. Favorites Canada (74.1588) and the United States (73.2800) finished second and third.

Today’s finals start at 2 p.m.
