CAMARILLO : 2 on Harbor Panel Await Court Ruling

Share

The ability of two harbor commissioners to run for reelection hinges on a Ventura County Superior Court judge’s decision expected Thursday.

Stanley J. Daily and Edward J. Millan, both of Camarillo, want the Oxnard Harbor District’s boundaries restored to include Camarillo and Thousand Oaks so that they can qualify as candidates. The commissioners obtained a Superior Court ruling last week that threw out an effort by the cities of Oxnard and Port Hueneme to remove all parts of the district not in those two cities.

However, appeals by the city of Port Hueneme and the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission have stayed the court’s ruling, Daily said.

This means that the two commissioners are not eligible to run because the district boundaries still encompass only Oxnard and Port Hueneme.

The two commissioners have asked Superior Court Judge Melinda A. Johnson to lift her stay on the grounds that their careers will suffer irreparable damage if they are not permitted to run.

A hearing to consider the request is set Thursday.
