Suter Leading Yacht Race Off Long Beach

Larry Suter of New York had a slight lead over 1984 Olympic silver medalist Randy Smyth and Pease Glaser after each won one of three races on Tuesday, the first day of the U.S. Yacht Racing Union Multihull Championship. The competition for the Alter Cup is off Long Beach.
The fleet, with one boat representing each of 10 regions, sailed Prindle 18.2 catamarans around 10- to 14-mile courses in 15 to 20 knots of breeze.
There will be 10 races through Friday.
