A 31-year-old Silver Lake man was fatally shot early Tuesday when three armed men tried to rob him as he stood with two friends in front of his house.
Witnesses told Los Angeles police that the assailants, one armed with a rifle and another with a handgun, got out of a van and accosted Robert Alex Gonzalez and two friends shortly after midnight in the 1900 block of Griffith Park Boulevard.
The men demanded money, Detective Sam Sanchez said. Gonzalez’s friends complied, Sanchez said, but Gonzalez hesitated and moved toward the garage. One of the men shot Gonzalez once in the back, and the assailants fled in the van, he said.
Gonzalez was taken to Glendale Memorial Hospital, where he died a short time later, Sanchez said. Police have no suspects.
