POINT MUGU : Air Show to Feature ‘the Best of the Best’

Share

A Marine airplane that takes off vertically, a flying squadron and a parachute team will headline the 1990 Point Mugu Air Show, naval officials say.

“We’ve got the best of the best coming to Point Mugu this year,” said the show’s director, Cmdr. John Manly.

“We’ll put F-14s and F-18s in the air, as well as other Navy and Department of Defense strike-and-attack aircraft.”

The Armed Forces West Parachute Team will open the show with a precision landing demonstration; the 146th Tactical Airlift Wing of the California Air National Guard will make a “fire” run a few feet off the ground; and the Harrier--a Marine fighter plane that can take off and land vertically will perform pirouettes.

In addition to featuring some of the most sophisticated weapons in the Navy’s air arsenal, the show will include performances from civilian precision flying groups and aerobatic teams.

Unlike previous years, this year’s show will not include a performance by the Blue Angels.

The show is scheduled for Oct. 13 and 14. Gates will open at 8 a.m., and there will be limited grandstand seating for early birds.
