A 31-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when the car in which she was riding stalled on California 94, then burst into flames when it was rear-ended by two other cars, authorities reported.
Rosalina Vargas Cegueda of San Diego, an employee of a National City dress store, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 7 a.m., Deputy Coroner Chuck Bolton said .
Cegueda was riding in rush-hour traffic with Antonio Maganda, 28, also of San Diego, when Maganda’s car stalled in the eastbound lanes of the freeway east of 25th Street, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.
Maganda was able to get out of the car, while Cegueda remained seated in the front passenger seat, the dispatcher said.
An approaching car struck the disabled vehicle, sending it spinning into the freeway median, where a second car smashed into it, authorities said.
The driver of the first car that hit the disabled car was unhurt; the driver of the other car suffered minor injuries.
