Lynwood : Architect Hired to Design Community Transit Center
- Share via
The City Council has approved a $73,000 contract with a Playa del Rey architectural firm to design a community and transit center.
Martinez Architects Inc. is expected to complete the design of a 22,500-square-foot, two-story building in about two months. It will include a kitchen, gymnasium, meeting rooms and a transportation center for Lynwood’s dial-a-ride service, two-car trolley line and Southern California Rapid Transit District buses.
Construction is estimated to cost approximately $1.8 million. Work could begin in about four months. State and federal funds will be used for the project.
The center will replace a much smaller and deteriorating facility at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Bullis Road.
As part of its contract with the city, Martinez Architects agreed to hire a Lynwood resident as an architecture trainee to work part-time on the project.
