Ramona’s Fairest

The 20th annual Ramona Fair and Junior Livestock Show begins with an opening ceremony at 5 p.m. tonight, followed by a pit barbecue at 6 p.m., at the fairgrounds off Main and 5th streets. The fair, sponsored by the Ramona Chamber of Commerce, runs through Sunday.

Saturday will be the fair’s busiest day, starting at 9:30 a.m. with the Main Street Parade featuring more than 100 entries including bands, floats and equestrians. Local radio personality Ernie Meyers will be parade grand marshal.

Also on Saturday will be a chili cook-off beginning at 9 a.m. with judging at 3 p.m. The Miss Ramona Rodeo pageant and coronation will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Future Farmers of America and 4-H members will display lambs, calves, swine, fancy poultry and rabbits. Awards will be presented at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Carnival rides, music, specialty acts, sports bike demonstrations and magic shows will be part of the continuing entertainment. The best of cultural Americana featuring one-of-a-kind quilts and crafts creations in a variety of media will be exhibited in the Home Arts tent.
