OXNARD : Texaco Boat Rescues Plane Crash Victims
A plane crashed into the ocean about 15 miles southwest of Ventura on Thursday afternoon but the pilot and his three passengers, including an Oxnard man, were rescued by a boat from a Texaco oil platform.
Jack Loomis, 45, of Goleta said he lost oil pressure on his single-engine Cessna 172 while he and three friends were returning from the Channel Islands. Loomis had to land in the water.
Loomis, his 42-year-old friend from Oxnard and a New Jersey couple in their mid-20s floated with life preservers for about 20 minutes before workers from the platform took them to the rig. The rig’s helicopter flew them to Goleta Valley Community Hospital, where Loomis was treated for a cut above an eye. The others were unharmed.
The U.S. Coast Guard sent two boats and two helicopters but both were recalled after workers from the rig rescued the four.
