Losing Padres’ Colors Leaves Fan Feeling Blue
Being conservative and traditionalist, I want to register my concern in the upcoming change in uniforms for the Padres. I believe I have at least the semi-right to do this because of my love of the Padres and because of the thousands of dollars I’ve invested in our team over the years.
Our current uniforms are beautiful. Browns and yellows are the right colors for two reasons: They’re colors of the original padres who settled our region, and no one else in baseball uses them. Now we are told by Art Rivkin, one of the owners, that we are to look like the Mets or the Atlanta Braves, that we are using the color everyone else in baseball uses--blue.
We are advised by Rivkin that we will like the uniforms. I don’t think I and a lot other fans will.
I hope that the club had the public relations foresight to research this matter among the fans first before making a decision and I mean both written and telephone research as well as focus group research.
The Padres belong to the fans as well as the owners. There’s nothing wrong with asking us our opinion first.
