Bernhardt Bashing

Share

So the wolves are after Linda Bernhardt! After just eight months in office, the San Diego city councilwoman has become so terrible that it is time for a recall election? Her biggest sin appears to be that she voted for a plan of redistricting that did not allow everyone who voted for her to be in her district. I would like to raise a few questions.

Who are the people at the head of this movement? Did they in fact vote for Linda? Or are they part of the conservative growth-lovers who worked for her opponent?

If a redistricting plan is supposed to change the districts so that each district has about the same number of inhabitants, how can all those living in the highly expanded population of the district in which Linda was elected expect to remain in that district?

Is it possible that the council members on the losing side of the vote on the redistricting plan are behind the recall movement? It is obvious that there is a battle between the populists and the big business people for control of the city’s business.

Is there any evidence that Linda Bernhardt was a dominant factor in the reduction in population of her district or in deciding just what part of her district would be transferred away?

Does the advisory committee’s proposal keep the same people in the districts of Roberts, McCarty and Henderson as they had in the old plan? If not, are there complaints about their changes?

If you get the same answers I do for the above questions, then you will agree with me that it is time for the minority members of the City Council to lick their wounds and get on with business.
