LAKE ELSINORE — A gunman shooting wildly while holed up in a mobile home for 10 hours wounded two sheriff’s deputies and apparently killed three people inside the home before surrendering today, authorities said.
The unidentified 35-year-old man, described as a survivalist with a military background, was arrested at 9:05 a.m. after keeping a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department special weapons team at bay since late Sunday.
Inside the home, deputies found three bodies as well as a high-powered rifle and hand grenades, Detective Henry Sawicki said. Identification of the bodies wasn’t immediately available.
Deputy Albert Jones was shot in the foot and taken to Inland Valley Medical Center. Another bullet bounced off the bulletproof vest worn by Deputy Joseph Hack, and it grazed his shoulder.
