Right-hander Jimmy Lemos allowed only one hit in six innings and drove in three runs Sunday to lead Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks to an 18-1 win over Ewing, N.J., in a second-round game of the Babe Ruth World Series in Houma, La.
Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks, which drew an opening-round bye in the nine-team tournament, will face Jefferson Parish of New Orleans in a third-round game Tuesday night.
Lemos (3-0) had a no-hitter until Tim Stout looped a two-out single to center in the sixth. Darren Firestone pitched a hitless seventh for Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks (15-2).
Justin Paperny lifted Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks into a 5-0 lead with a two-run homer over the the left-field fence in the third inning. Papperny finished with four runs batted in. Cesar Martinez added three hits and three runs scored.
