Donald F. Mintey; Retired Sheet-Metal Worker

Donald F. Mintey, a retired sheet-metal worker for Lockheed Corp., has died in Panorama City. He was 81.

Born in Hampshire, England, Mintey died Friday after a long illness, said Lucile Mintey of Woodland Hills, his wife of 55 years.

Mintey immigrated to the United States in 1922 with his family and settled in Burbank. In 1945, he and his wife moved into a house in Sunland that he built with his father.

He began working as a sheet-metal apprentice in the late 1920s, working for various sheet-metal shops in the San Fernando Valley. He worked for Lockheed during World War II and from 1965 until his 1975 retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Harry Mintey of Burbank; a daughter, Joan Pollei of Tujunga; brothers Leonard Mintey of Tujunga and Montey Mintey of San Pedro; sisters Edna Stanley of Santa Ynez and Mable Higgins of Veneta, Ore.; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Glen Haven Memorial Chapel in San Fernando, which is handling the arrangements.
