San Gabriel : Recycling Pilot Project
With an All-American splash of red, white and blue plastic containers, the city Saturday will launch the first phase of a curbside recycling program.
The San Gabriel Disposal Co. will deliver three stackable containers (red for newspapers, white for glass and blue for plastic) to residents whose trash day is Thursday. As a public relations gesture, City Council members will participate in the container deliveries.
Results from the three-month pilot project involving the Thursday trash pickups will help determine how recycling will be handled in the rest of the community, city officials said. A full-scale program is expected to start in December and will help meet the city’s requirements under the state trash-reduction law.
