CAMARILLO : Council Scraps City Hall Expansion

Share

The Camarillo City Council decided Wednesday to cut $150,000 for a planned City Hall expansion to help make up for a $600,000 shortfall in the city’s 1990-91 budget caused by state funding cuts.

City Manager Bill Little said the City Hall improvement was planned because “we’re running out of space in the planning and engineering departments. Now we will have to wait another year. It’s not ideal, but it’s livable.”

In addition, the council cut funds for a sheriff’s deputy and a senior accountant, which will restore $144,705 to the general fund. A $100,000 improvement of Constitution Park was also cut.

Camarillo will lose about $7,500 in cigarette taxes because of the state budget adopted in late July. There was also an unexpected reduction in trial court funding of $351,000.

In addition, a law passed by the Legislature gives Ventura County the authority to charge for booking prisoners at County Jail. The cost to the city is estimated to be about $232,500.
