YORBA LINDA : New Bridge Link to Freeway Is Opened

Share

The Gypsum Canyon Bridge, which links eastern Yorba Linda to the Riverside Freeway, was dedicated and opened to traffic on Thursday.

The 1,400-foot-long bridge over the Santa Ana River contains nearly 3 million pounds of reinforced steel and 20,000 cubic yards of structural concrete. Support columns were placed so that the meandering course of the Santa Ana River could be preserved.

The bridge is the last and the largest of four built to provide access to about 3,500 acres of land that Yorba Linda annexed in 1980. Total cost for all the bridges was $25 million.

Contractor C.C. Myers of Sacramento built the Gypsum Canyon Bridge. Officials estimate about 12,000 vehicles will use the four-lane bridge each day. It also includes bicycle and equestrian trails.
