Gassner Stands Out in Maccabiah Games

Each member of the Los Angeles track and field team won a medal and Valencia swimmer Lindsay Gassner earned a silver and gold Thursday in the North American Maccabiah Youth Games in Detroit.
Los Angeles won a gold medal in the inaugural co-ed 400 relay event while silver-medal winners included West Hills’ Bethany Weinstein (200 meters, 28.1 seconds); Sherman Oaks’ Abram Lieberman (200, 25.1); Westlake Village’s Andra Grosser (200, 26.8); and Encino’s Adam Naftalin (high jump, 5 feet 8 1/4 inches).
Van Nuys’ Elim Lee won a bronze medal in the girls high jump with a leap of 5-7 3/4.
Gassner, competing in the girls’ 13-14 division, won the 500-meter freestyle (2:35.09) and added a silver in the 200 intermediate medley (2:21.26). Gassner and Ventura’s Anzak Jacobs also helped Los Angeles’ 200 mixed freestyle relay team to a silver medal.
