Youngstown, Ohio, rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks, 14-12, in an elimination game of the Babe Ruth World Series in Houma, La., on Thursday night.
Trailing, 12-7, entering the seventh, Youngstown sent seven batters to the plate as Van Nuys failed to record an out. A Van Nuys error on a potential double-play ball fueled the rally.
Five batters into the inning, starter Jimmy Lemos was relieved by Justin Salazar, who eventually surrendered a game-ending grand slam and took the loss.
Steve Chavez, Cesar Martinez and Justin Paperny each homered for Van Nuys, which finished 16-4 overall and placed fourth in the tournament.
Paperny and Martinez each had three hits, and teammates Julio Marcial and Glen Carson added two apiece.
Each team had 15 hits.
