A federal judge has reduced the sentences of two witnesses who testified against Thomas P. Gioiosa, a former housemate of Pete Rose.

U.S. District Judge Carl Rubin reduced the sentences of Donald Stenger and Linda Kettle, saying they had provided “substantial assistance” to federal prosecutors.

Both testified against Gioiosa, who was convicted last year of transporting cocaine and cheating on his taxes. He was sentenced to five years in prison.

Gioiosa has admitted he claimed Rose’s race track earnings on his taxes, even though Rose owned the majority share of the tickets.

Rose is serving a five-month sentence at a federal prison camp in Illinois for failing to report income on his taxes.
