Two Thousand Oaks brothers were arrested on suspicion of attacking a man with a knife and golf club because the man was interested in dating their 16-year-old sister, authorities said.

Felipe Cuitareo, 24, and Manuel Ayala, 19, were being held Monday on $5,000 bail each at the Ventura County Jail.

Cuitareo and Ayala approached Filimon Gonzalez, 28, Sunday afternoon as he worked on a car in the 1900 block of Los Vilas, Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Montijo said.

The brothers were upset that Gonzalez, who they have known for about a year, was carrying around a photograph of their sister, Sheriff’s Detective Ernie Montagna said.

The three began arguing and then fighting, Montijo said.

Gonzalez was cut on the face, back and arms, Montijo said.

He was taken to Los Robles Hospital in Camarillo, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Deputies arrested the suspects, who suffered some bruises but declined treatment.
