Two people, including a pregnant 17-year-old girl, were injured Tuesday night when the car in which they allegedly were racing crashed into a power pole, ejecting both occupants, police said.

Delana Cordell of Buena Park, who is five to six months pregnant, was listed in serious condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after the 7 p.m. accident near the intersection of Stage and McComber roads, police said.

Cordell was the passenger of a late model Buick driven by Steven Deistch, 18, of La Mirada, police said.

Deistch was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was in serious condition, police said.

Police said they believe Deistch was speeding east on Stage and drag racing with another vehicle when he lost control of the car, hit a block wall and crashed into the power pole.

The pole was knocked over by the impact, creating a power outage at 30 to 40 homes. Power was restored after about 90 minutes, Police Sgt. Terry Branum said.

The occupants of the other car that was apparently drag racing with Deistch were friends of the victims and stopped to help after the accident, Branum said.

No citations were issued pending an investigation, he said.
