The bruised but alert victim of a downtown San Diego mugging teamed with a police officer Tuesday afternoon to locate the suspects in the assault, police said.

Richard Davis, 42, who police say works part time downtown, was walking in the 900 block of E Street when two men grabbed, kicked and cut him, taking his pocket change and wallet.

After being called to the scene, San Diego Police Officer Larry Triplett Jr. helped Davis into his squad car. They drove around the area for 30 minutes looking for the assailants.

Triplett arrested Javier Flores Camaney, 24, and Martin Gonzalez Paze, 20, at 10th Avenue and B Street. Both men are undocumented immigrants, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

They were booked into County Jail at 4 p.m. on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Davis was robbed of 75 cents, Robinson said.
