All-Star Pitcher Larry Jackson Dies of Cancer

Larry Jackson, who pitched for three National League teams and was named to three all-star teams, has died after a seven-month battle with cancer. He was 59.

Jackson, who died Tuesday night, pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies in a 14-year, major-league career and had a lifetime record of 194-183.

Jackson’s best year was 1964, when he was 24-11 with the Cubs and posted a 3.14 earned run average.

He was executive director for the Idaho Republican Party in 1972, ran an insurance company and served eight years in the Idaho Legislature as a state representative from Ada County.

His last two years he served as chairman of the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee.
