Egghead Discount Software: The Issaquah, Wash., computer software retailer reported first-quarter earnings of $2.1 million, contrasted with a year-ago net loss of $5.2 million. Revenue increased 18% to $144.7 million. The company attributed its improved showing--its third straight profitable quarter--to tighter management and new product promotions, especially for Microsoft Windows 3.0.
