A shouting match among a group of men Monday erupted into a shooting incident in which one man was killed and another was wounded.
Escondido police arrived at the 900 block of West Valley Parkway about 1:35 a.m. to find Gustavo Pina Carmona, 24, and Jose Luis-Munoz Romero, 25, lying wounded on the sidewalk.
The men, both Escondido residents, were taken to Palomar Medical Center, where Romero died about two hours later. Pina Carmona was reported in good condition late Monday with a gunshot wound to the pelvic area. Romero had been shot once in the lower chest.
Police said that they have no suspects in custody. The gun used in the shooting was a small caliber semiautomatic handgun, police said.
