Man Thrown Out of Bar Dies of Head Injuries

A Lawndale man who suffered massive head injuries Saturday when a bouncer allegedly threw him out of a Redondo Beach bar died Tuesday of his injuries at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, authorities said.

Michael Alvey, 25, had fought with another patron shortly after midnight in the bar of Pancho and Wong’s restaurant when the “door host,” Eric Charles Meyer, intervened, police said.

Rather than escorting Alvey out, Meyer allegedly took the man to the bar’s back door and threw him off the deck, down four stairs and onto the asphalt, police said. Alvey was rushed to the hospital, where he died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Meyer, 32, of Torrance was booked Saturday at the Redondo Beach Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities were unavailable for comment Tuesday on whether the charges would be changed because of Alvey’s death.
