RAIDERS : Evans, Patterson Back on Team
Quarterback Vince Evans and defensive back Elvis Patterson rejoined the Raiders Tuesday after clearing waivers.
Tackle Bruce Wilkerson and wide receiver Mike Alexander were put on the injured-reserve list to make room for Evans and Patterson. Wilkerson, who has strained ligaments in his left knee, and Alexander, who has a pulled hamstring, must sit out at least four games before they can be returned to the roster.
Evans, 35, will back up quarterback Jay Schroeder until the Raiders activate Steve Beuerlein, who ended his holdout Monday.
Evans has been a backup quarterback for the Raiders on occasion during each of the past three years.
Patterson, 29, spent four years with the New York Giants, then joined the San Diego Chargers in 1987 during the players’ strike. He left the Chargers after the 1989 season and joined the Raiders as a Plan B free agent. He is a special teams standout.
