NEWPORT BEACH : Safety Kits Given to 1,300 First-Graders
First-graders in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District will begin the school year with a song in their hearts and a lesson on safety.
As part of an annual program, the Newport-Mesa Assn. of Realtors has distributed safety kits to the nearly 1,300 first-graders who attend school in the Newport-Mesa district. The kits include a coloring book and cassette tape with musical lessons on everything from staying away from the pool to never getting in a car with strangers.
“Our objective is for them to take this home and work with their parents and talk about the various situations,” explained Rose Carey, a spokeswoman for the association.
