A early morning fire today caused $200,000 damage to two homes under construction in a hillside Glendale neighborhood. It also charred an acre of brush and ignited a roof fire.

Fire dispatcher Sue Saurer said no injuries occurred in the blaze, which broke out just north of the hillside area where 66 homes were damaged or destroyed June 27 in Glendale’s worst fire.

Today’s fire was reported at 2:39 a.m. in the 1900 block of Calafia Street, where firefighters found two partially constructed homes engulfed in flames. Damage to each was estimated at $100,000.

The fire also blackened about 1 acre of brush nearby and burned a 2-foot-square section of roof at a home at 1820 Bara Road, Saurer said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
