COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titan Men, UCLA Women Win Cross-Country Meet

The Cal State Fullerton cross-country team won the men’s university division and finished fourth in the women’s university division at the Titans’ cross-country invitational Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea. UCLA won the women’s division.

Fullerton’s men were led by Steve Frisone, who finished fourth on the eight-kilometer course with a time of 25 minutes 43 seconds, Ray Tujillo (5th, 25:59) and Mike Richardson (6th, 26:02). Shannon Winkleman of UC Riverside was first (25:22).

Nicole Nucent of UCLA was first in the women’s university division with a time of 18:27 on the five-kilometer course.

Southern California College’s Sherri Hall (18:37) won the women’s college division.

In the Cal State Fullerton women’s volleyball tournament:

Cal State Long Beach 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Cal State Long Beach (7-1) easily defeated Fullerton (3-5) in the consolation final, 15-2, 15-2, 15-1. Wisconsin won the championship by defeating Oregon State, 15-10, 9-15, 15-10, 15-10.

In the Whittier College women’s volleyball tournament:

Southern California College 3, Azusa Pacific 1--Krista Hoover had 15 kills and was named to the all-tournament team and Heather Frewin has 10 kills to lead Southern California College (12-4) to a 12-15, 15-10, 15-8, 15-9, victory.

In nonconference women’s volleyball:

UC Irvine 3, Oklahoma 0--Kim Collins had nine kills to lead host UC Irvine (2-3) to a 15-9, 15-6, 15-1 victory.

Cal State San Bernardino 3, Christ College Irvine 1--Tammi Johnson had 15 kills for host Christ College Irvine (3-8), which lost, 15-9, 15-13, 12-15, 15-12.
