L.A. Told to Coordinate Medfly Suit With 4 Others

Share

A judge on Monday ordered the city of Los Angeles to coordinate its lawsuit to block malathion spraying with four other similar cases before it interviews state scientists involved in the effort to eradicate the Mediterranean fruit fly.

Judge John Zebrowski, who is also handling the other legal challenges, told attorneys on both sides of the cases to meet by Sept. 18 and establish a schedule for collecting information from state scientists and agencies.

Los Angeles, Glendale and Burbank are trying to stop the use of malathion on the grounds that it violates state laws requiring proper notification of residents before each spraying.
