Hollywood : Press Club Plans Move

The Greater Los Angeles Press Club is moving its operations to Hollywood to expand its base of operations and to be closer to the area’s media outlets.

The press club, which had been temporarily housed at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank, will move to larger quarters in the Hollywood Palm Hotel, 2005 N. Highland Ave.

The move is scheduled for Oct. 1. The Press Club will continue to be the primary location for news conferences and professional and social programs for the communications industry, according to Burt Wuttken, Press Club executive director.

“This will be much closer to the center of activity of the communications business--closer to TV and radio outlets, as well as newspapers,” Wuttken said.

Because the site is larger, the Press Club also hopes to reinstitute social and educational programs, Wuttken said. He said the club will offer food and beverage facilities, and meeting rooms.

An open house is planned at the new site, but no date has been set, said club President Charles Hillinger, a Los Angeles Times reporter.

The press club has about 800 members. It operated out of the Equestrian Center for two years, after its move from 600 N. Vermont Ave. near the Hollywood Freeway, Wuttken said.
