ROUNDUP : Hollywood Ends Skid at 27 Games

Mo Camara scored on a five-yard pass from Jessie Elkins and on a 85-yard kickoff return, lifting Hollywood to a 23-6 victory that ended a 27-game losing streak dating to Nov. 14, 1986.

The Sheiks’ last victory was against Belmont, 30-20, in their final game of the ’86 season.

Hollywood’s third touchdown was set up when Avo Avetisyan blocked a Jordan field-goal attempt that was picked up by Curtis Fisher and returned 70 yards to the Jordan two-yard line. Elkins scored on a quarterback sneak on the next play.

Jefferson 22, Gardena 12--Darryl Cooley had two interceptions, including one for a 90-yard touchdown, and completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Marcus Johnson for the host Democrats. Cooley completed eight of 15 passes for 56 yards.

Walnut 25, Magnolia 0--The Mustangs (1-1) held the visiting Sentinels (1-1) to minus-one yard of total offense. Walnut quarterback Tommy Vazquez completed seven of 14 passes for 101 yards and touchdowns of 29 and 25 yards. Running back Clint Poulter gained 61 yards in five carries and had five receptions for 56 yards.

Crespi 14, Hart 3--Hart quarterack Ryan Conners completed just one of eight passes for nine yards before being sidelined with an elbow injury in the loss. Visiting Crespi was led by sophomore running back Torie Lee, who gained 126 yards in 26 carries.

Culver City 41, Hamilton 6--The host Centaurs (1-1) took advantage of five turnovers to win. Culver City used seven running backs, led by Lamar Wilborn’s 48 yards in 10 carries.

Montclair Prep 35, Simi Valley 22--Eliel Swinton rushed for 252 yards in 30 carries and scored a touchdown for the Mounties (1-2). Chris Portugal had two interceptions, including a 42-yard return for a touchdown in the second quarter that gave Montclair Prep a 22-0 lead.

Capistrano Valley 15, Edison 14--The Cougars’ Tony Solliday completed 14 of 26 passes for 202 yards, but it was the running game the proved the difference. Jeremy Brion gained 79 yards in 16 carries for Capistrano Valley (2-0).
