Gretzky, Granato Score 2 Goals Each as Kings Win, 5-4

Wayne Gretzky scored two goals and added an assist as the Kings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-4, Saturday night in a National Hockey League exhibition.

Tony Granato, who also scored twice, had a power-play goal with 10:43 left to give the Kings a 5-3 lead.

Mike Recchi scored his second goal for the Penguins, also on a power play, with one second left.

The Kings are undefeated in two exhibition games. Pittsburgh is 1-1. The Penguins’ Mario Lemieux remained sidelined while recovering from back surgery.

After a scoreless first period, Gretzky scored the first of his two power-play goals on an assist from Thomas Sandstrom 16:31 into the second period. Pittsburgh tied it less than a minute later on a goal by Tony Tanti. Gretzky then scored 18:14 into the period after picking up a loose puck in front of the net.

Early in the third period, Pittsburgh’s Barry Pederson tied the score again, but the Kings surged ahead on goals by Jay Miller and Granato. Recchi brought the Penguins back to 4-3, but Granato countered with his second goal.
