Loara 14, Anaheim 0--Luigi Gagow’s life may have had a few turns, but he left little doubt that he’s going straight ahead now.

Back at Loara High School after a year in continuation school, Gagow rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns in 20 carries and led the Saxons to victory at Glover Stadium.

It was Gagow’s first varsity game. He had played on Loara’s underclass teams as a freshman and sophomore.

“Luigi’s a punishing runner,” Loara Coach John deFries said, after earning his first victory as a varsity coach. “He only knows one speed, and that’s full speed ahead. Our guys hate having to hit him in practice.”

Gagow, a senior tailback, was obviously eager to be back--so much so that he fumbled the ball away on Loara’s first drive at the Anaheim one-yard line.

But on the Saxons’ next possession, Gagow banged his way into the end zone from a yard out, three plays into the second quarter.

He found the end zone again in the third quarter, taking a handoff on a draw play on third and long and outracing Anaheim’s Giulian Buzilla and Marc Zavala 54 yards for the touchdown.

Loara’s defense, led by junior linebacker Jason Wright, held Anaheim (0-2) to 98 yards total offense.

Loara improved to 2-0 after losing, 16-14 to Western last week.
