Virtuoso Violinists: Soviet Pavel Berman won the gold medal at the International Violin Competition on Sunday in Indianapolis, earning a Carnegie Hall debut and $22,000. Berman, 20, is the son of Soviet pianist Lazar Berman. The Moscow native also won a European management contract, more than 50 recital engagements with major North American orchestras and a gold watch. Second-place honors went to Marco Rizzi of Italy. Ivan Chan of the United States came in third, Virginia Robilliard of France placed fourth and David Kim of the United States was fifth.
