MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Sun Microsystems Inc. said it has won a major contract with GE Aerospace and filed documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a stock offering.
The computer workstation maker said it was chosen as the sole supplier of engineering workstations to GE Aerospace, a deal that could be worth $100 million over two years.
Sun also said it plans a stock offering of 5.9 million new shares of common stock and 1.1 million shares to be sold by current shareholders.
The company said the stock offering would strengthen its balance sheet, boost cash reserves and place it in a solid borrowing position. The majority of the shares will be offered in the United States by Goldman, Sachs & Co.
