San Bernardino Girl Honored by Bush
Linda Warsaw, 17, of San Bernardino, founder of “Kids Against Crime,” was named President Bush’s 250th “Point of Light” on Monday.
Normally honorees just get a letter signed by Bush, but Linda also got a phone call.
She founded “Kids Against Crime” in 1985 to teach children to protect themselves. Teen-age volunteers operate a hot line for youths who need advice and support.
Bush first spoke of a “thousand points of light” in his acceptance speech at the 1988 Republican convention, using it as a metaphor for all the things Americans do, individually and in groups, to help fellow citizens.
