Maxwell to Retire as Chairman of Fannie Mae
David O. Maxwell will retire as chairman of the Federal National Mortgage Assn. effective Jan. 31. He will be replaced by Vice Chairman James A. Johnson.
Roger E. Birk will continue as president of Fannie Mae, a congressionally chartered, shareholder-owned company and the nation’s largest investor in home mortgages.
Johnson joined Fannie Mae in January from Shearson Lehman Hutton Inc., where he was a managing director. He also served as president of Public Strategies, a Washington consulting firm, and worked as an executive assistant to former Vice President Walter Mondale.
