Edward Anthony Folzman; Lockheed Trucker

Edward Anthony Folzman, a power trucker who used heavy equipment to move airplanes at Lockheed in Palmdale, has died in Panorama City. He was 63.

A resident of Lancaster since 1964, Folzman died Sunday of emphysema, said his daughter, Mary Halley.

Born April 11, 1927, in Watts, he served two years in the U.S. Army near the close of World War II, driving an ambulance. After he was discharged, he earned a bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and supervised poultry farms in Santa Rosa and Lancaster. From 1971 until 1988, when illness disabled him, he was a power trucker for Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Co. in Palmdale, moving airplanes between hangars and runways.

Folzman enjoyed writing poetry and young adult fiction, in addition to painting with acrylics and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, Noreen Folzman; sons Steven Folzman of Gardena and Michael Folzman of Milton, Fla.; daughters Mary Halley of Lancaster, Karen Snow of El Cajon, Calif., Janice Osborne of Sonoma, Calif., and Claudia Folzman of Crestline, Calif.; a stepson, Shawn McLaughlin of Upper Hayford, England; stepdaughters Christine Leishman of Tehachapi, Kathleen Knurr of Dyess Air Force Base in Texas and Heather McLaughlin of Lancaster; a sister, Betty McClusky of Hollywood, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 45007 N. Cedar Ave. in Lancaster, with burial to follow at Lancaster Cemetery. Halley-Olsen Funeral Chapel in Lancaster is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Folzman’s name to the American Lung Assn.
