OXNARD : 14 Arrested in Car Burglary Sweep

Fourteen people were arrested after a two-week crackdown on car thefts and break-ins in the Channel Islands Harbor area of Oxnard, police said.

Four plainclothes officers from the Oxnard Police Department covered the area surrounding Sunset Drive, Harbor Boulevard and Peninsula Road daily from Labor Day between about 8 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Officers arrested five Oxnard adults and nine juveniles, recovering about $1,000 worth of property, said Officer Gary Schennault.

Police arrested four Granada Hills teen-agers after officers reported that they had been loitering and looking into parked cars in the 2900 to 3100 blocks of Peninsula Road.

Two days later officers arrested five high school students and recovered more than $600 worth of ornaments from Cadillacs and Mercedes-Benzes, police said.

On the same day, police arrested Gilberto Garcia Hernandez, 23, Jose Tinoco Yepez, 19, and Arcadio Alonso Macario, 24, all of Oxnard, on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and possession of burglary tools.

A few days later Juan Ramirez, 24, of Oxnard, was arrested on charges he received property stolen from one of the burglarized cars, police said.

Police also arrested Marlon Tito Williams, 19, of Oxnard during the surveillance on suspicion of burglary after officers observed someone forcing entry to the recreation room at the Anacapa Apartments in the 3000 block of Peninsula Road.

Officers could not provide the cost of the surveillance or total number of cars broken into before the project began.
