From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The National Rifle Assn., citing judicial “mistakes,” has asked a federal judge to reconsider his decision upholding the California ban on assault guns. In documents filed by the NRA and Fresno Rifle and Pistol Club, the organizations assert that U.S. District Judge Edward Dean Price misread the law on two key issues this month when he threw out their challenge to the gun control statute. The gun owner groups urged him to reverse himself and block enforcement of the law. The case has drawn national attention and is expected to reach the U.S. Supreme Court. The law is the nation’s first statutory ban of semiautomatic military-style firearms.
