Restrictions Imposed on Mosque Design

Share

I am appalled at the infringement of religious freedom involved in the City Council requiring that a new mosque forgo domes and minarets in order to build at a site in Granada Hills. Freedom of symbolic expression is the core of religious freedom, and architectural symbolism is an important part of religious symbolism. A mosque should be able to look like a mosque.

And speaking of “Spanish architecture,” what could be more appropriate to the theme of “Granada,” of all places, than Islamic architecture?
