YOUNGER THAN YESTERDAY: Byrds fans--mark Oct. 23 on your calendar. That’s when CBS Records will release a mammoth Byrds retrospective titled “Full Throttle.” The four-CD boxed set features a ton of hits from the group’s 25-year history, plus such unreleased gems as: a 1970 version of Bob Dylan’s “Just Like a Woman (with Jackson Browne on piano); five Gram Parsons tracks, with the late country-rock wizard singing lead vocals on “You Don’t Miss Your Water,” “The Christian Life” and “One Hundred Years From Now”; and numerous live tracks, including a 1967 version of “Roll Over Beethoven” and a 1970 rendition of Lowell George’s “Willin’ ” . . . . And Johnny Lydon, who began his career thumbing his nose at the trappings of rock stardom, has released the ultimate star vanity project--a greatest hits album. Due out Oct. 9, it’s titled “Greatest Hits So Far” and features Lydon’s PIL band performing “Public Image,” “Careering,” “Rise” and a new track, “Don’t Ask Me.”
