San Diego
A transient died from a stab wound Sunday after police found him near the fountain at Horton Plaza, authorities said.
Rolando Hizon, 32, was stabbed about 4 p.m. Saturday but died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday at UC San Diego Medical Center, said a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department.
Shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Broadway to investigate the report of a stabbing. En route to the scene, officer Michael Davis stopped and questioned a suspect, who was later arrested, the spokesman said.
Police were led to the park area at Horton Plaza, where they found Hizon, who died shortly after surgery. Authorities do not know where Hizon comes from or how long he has been here, the spokesman said.
George Peters, 27, who had been involved in a previous altercation with Hizon, was taken into custody, police said. Peters was first booked on assault with a deadly weapon but is now being held on suspicion of murder at the County Jail downtown, authorities said.
